Braindance was a NeuroArt project that tried to bridge the gap between science and art.
The goal was to find and visualise the differences in people’s responses to music that they heard for the first time. Using the WhiteBox EEG platform, 20 volunteers’ brainwaves were measured while they listened to a musical piece made especially for this occasion by kleemar. This all happened in a black box, where the subjects were deprived of all senses except hearing. We concentrated on visualising the two most significant and scientifically explainable measures – focus and flow. Focus tells us how concentrated a person is and flow is the degree to which one is immersed in the music. The results were visualised in the form of B1 posters and exhibited, while each of the participants got to take one copy home as a personalised image of their brain.
